We are actively involved in academics at PG and PhD level and a number of research projects are being carried out.
The following are the ongoing projects at Metabolic Disorders Laboratory.
  • "Mass screening program for inborn errors of metabolism" ­ Funded by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

  • "How common is essential amino acids, micronutrient deficiency in tropical pancreatitis" ­ Funded by KSCSTE.

  • "Role of medium chain fatty acids of coconut oil in atherosclerosis" ­ KSCSTE.

  • "Clinical, biochemical and molecular profiling of organic acidurias" ­ ICMR

  • "Impact of Coconut Oil as a cooking medium on cardiovascular risk factors and
    clinical outcomes in patients with CAD receiving standard medical care:
    A randomized case controlled study with polyunsaturated sunflower oil" - Coconut Development Board.

  • MSc projects ­ About 15 MSc projects from outside universities and 5 MSc projects from Amrita Viswa Vidya Peetham (of 3-6 months´ duration) have already been completed.

  • ICMR ­ STS fellowships ­ 2 MBBS students have completed Short term student fellowships under this scheme.

  • The laboratory has very keen interest in developing new research projects and
    guiding under-graduates, post-graduates, DNB scholars, MD/DM and PhD
    students alike in research programs.
