Chest wall defects from cancer removal and trauma are treated with locally available tissue or microsurgical tissue transfers from other parts of the body. Sternal wound dehiscence, loss of multiple ribs is treated with reconstruction with artificial materials.
Abdominal wall hernias and defects are reconstructed with or with out mesh. Importance is also given to the shape and many a times liposuction is also done along with the reconstruction to get a pleasing shape as well.
Reconstruction of the penis and vaginal and sex transfers are also done.
Limb salvage surgery like limb revascularizations, local and free microsurgical flaps to avoid amputations are done here regularly. We team up with podiatry surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and orthotists for getting patients back on their feet.
Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve surgery: All reconstruction of the peripheral nerves is done here. Free functioning muscle transfers, distal neurotisations, nerve cross overs and repairs are done here for the peripheral nerves and brachial plexus injuries. Obstetric brachial plexus injuries ( Erb's palsy ) are managed on a regular basis. Late cases are treated with tendon transfers and contracture releases.
Lymphedema due to all causes is dealt with by a team comprising of the plastic surgeon, nuclear medicine experts, palliative team, general surgeon and physician. Conservative treatment modalities like massage, bandaging, foot care and intermittent pneumatic compression are done. Surgical intervention like bypass operations and reduction operations and newer modalities like micro lymphovenous anastomosis are done here.
