             Facilities offered include:

Samples Accepted –

  1. Body fluids:Blood, Urine, Stomach contents (aspirate, washing, vomitus). All cases are accepted, including medicolegal cases, however, viscera samples from dead victims will NOT be accepted
  2. Water samples:For detecting pesticides, metals, chemicals, and for certifying potability
  3. Commercial products (e.g., medicinal powders):For detecting presence of poisons or drugs

Recommended Quantities:

  • Blood: 10 ml (without preservative)
  • Urine: 50 ml (without preservative)

Stomach contents:

  • Aspirate - 10 ml (without preservative)
  • Washing (first wash) - 25-50 ml (without preservative)
  • Water: 500 ml (without preservative)

Dispatch:

All samples must be collected in sterile, chemically clean containers, sealed, and labelled. It is preferable to send them in an icebox (container or thermos packed with ice) by courier. No cooling is required if the sample can be reached to us within 6 hours of collection. It is important to mention relevant clinical details with detailed history. If you are a practising physician and would like to refer a patient for diagnosis by the Analytical Toxicology Laboratory, please down load the referral (requisition) form and include it with a specimen. The form is available in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

Charges (subject to change):

  •  Qualitative analysis: Rs.200/- to Rs.750/-
  • Quantitative analysis: Rs.200/- onwards for each poison/drug
  • Consult the list for full details (see above)

All charges to be paid preferably at the time of submission of samples either in cash, or crossed DD favouring "Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences" payable at Ernakulam.
     
Reports:

Results of analysis will generally be made available within a few hours. If payment has been made in advance, the result will be communicated on phone or by e-mail, the moment it is ready. The opinion can be collected in document form through a messenger, or by mail.
