Facilities offered include:

- Toxicological analysis of blood, urine, or stomach contents (vomitus, aspirate, or washing).Details of sample collection and submission plus the list of poisons/drugs which can be tested is available on request.
- Advanced and sophisticated treatment facility at AIMS for all kinds of cases of poisoning (due to chemicals, drugs, plant products, animal bites or stings, food poisons, drug abuse, etc.). Such cases can be brought directly or referred by any doctor or hospital from elsewhere.
- Instant access to detailed information on poisons and poisoning through telephone, e-mail, postal mail, personal contact, etc. The department utilizes state-of-the-art software packages, POISINDEX and TOXINZ from the USA and New Zealand respectively which together has information on more than 800,000 poisonous substances encountered world-wide. In addition, the department also has free access to INTOX with kind courtesy of the World Health Organization. These packages enable the department to answer any query on poisons or poisoning in a matter of seconds via e-mail or phone or fax. The specific e-mail ID for queries is: poisonunit@aims.amrita.edu. - The department has an attached forensic DNA Typing Unit with state-of-the-art facilities for DNA extraction and amplification.
