The Poison Control Centre was established at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 2003, and serves the entire state of Kerala in all matters relating to poisoning. The Analytical Toxicology department is part of the Poison Control Centre (PCC), and offers unique facilities in the area of toxicology (poisons and poisoning) to all hospitals, government doctors, and private practitioners of Kerala state and neighbouring regions.

This is the first time that such a department has been started in a hospital in the entire state of Kerala, and has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the authorized Poison Control Centres in India, and the only one that is full-fledged with information resource, analytical, and research facilities. It is listed in the Yellowtox Directory of Poison Control Centres of the world, on the WHO website. The department has an attached forensic DNA Typing Unit with facilities for DNA extraction and amplification.
