13 - 14 January, 2007 - Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and the Amrita School of Biotechnology present the Annual Conference of the Society for Biotechnologists (India) on the 13th and 14th January 2007. Across the globe, advances in molecular biology and biotechnology have had a profound impact on society at large. Biotechnology holds great promise in meeting the needs of the growing population for innovative medicines and therapies to combat disease, higher productivity in agriculture, nutritional enhancement and protection of the environment. In addition, recent developments in nanotechnology are transforming the fields of biosensors, medical devices, diagnostics, high-throughput screening and drug delivery – and this is only the beginning.

Against this background, the focus of this conference is on:

  • New molecules for molecular medicine
  • Animal Biotechnology and drug development
  • Plant Biotechnology and natural products
  • Nanotechnology – devices and drug development
  • Pharmacogenomics

The two-day conference is designed to be a focal point for both workers in the field of biotechnology and students who wish to enter the field. Students participating are encouraged to submit papers based on original work in the above categories.

Awards

Professor MV Pylee Award for best contribution in Biotechnology.

There will be a free paper session on both days, chaired by experts in their fields. There will be an award for the best paper in each category.

There will also be a poster session on both days. The best poster in each category will also have an award.
