INTERVIEW DECEMBER 5, 2006

Baby of Anjana and Saji

Idukki District

Saji (Father) I am a farmer, working in a rubber plantation. I tap the trees to extract latex. At the birth of our baby, we saw that he was a bluish color, and he slowly turned darker blue. We were very frightened. After consulting a doctor in our town, we were advised to go to AIMS. The doctor said that there was no place else that could treat this condition, and that the child would die if the operation was not done. Our relatives told us that it was impossible to come to such a big expensive hospital, and that we should not even try because we could never afford it.

We had no choice, so we came to AIMS. We were immediately admitted, and our baby was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. It would require two surgeries. The amount for the operation was RS 116,000. We could not even dream about this amount. We were told that it would be paid for by the hospital. We were thrilled, and the surgery was done. Everyone was so warm and helpful, we felt it was Amma’s hands helping us through the staff here. Here there is no partiality with regards to poor people—we are not feeling that at all

We brought the baby to Amritapuri, and waited for many hours to see Amma. We felt so much amazement when we saw Amma sitting for darshan for so many hours. Then we talked to a Swami about our child’s condition and he brought us up right away for darshan. Amma held the baby for some time. Amma asked which hospital we go to. When we told her AIMS, Amma said OK and looked at us with a smile in her eyes.

When I think of everything that has ever happened to me, nothing in this world compares to the happiness and thankfulness I am feeling. If Amma had not helped us, we could not even be on this earth. We did not have hope before, now we have hope in our lives once more.  Both Anjana and I are thinking back over our whole lives and this seems like the only wonderful thing that has happened. Now I am filled with the desire to work and give money to AIMS when I get it.

I am feeling thankful for the medical problems we have had because it has brought us to meet Amma. Our hearts are full of love for her. Amma should not only be here for our generation, but she should be there for all the generations to come.
