The Kochi campus is a health sciences campus with a considerable depth and breadth of academic programs in healthrelated
areas. The MBBS program was started over four years ago and soon the postgraduate MD and MD PhD
program is anticipated to start. The campus also has a Dental College offering a BDS degree, a college of Pharmacy>
offering B.Pharm, a school of Nursing offering Bachelors degree in Nursing and a range of MSc programs offering
postgraduate degrees in various biomedical areas. Students at this campus therefore have the opportunity to interact
with various students of related disciplines. In addition, one of the jewels of this campus is the nationally renowned
super-specialty hospital and Research Centre, the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, which offers the opportunity
for direct clinical application of research concepts and the possibility of interaction with highly specialized clinicians
in various areas. |

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE MTECH NANOMEDICAL
SCIENCES PROGRAM
This program leans strongly towards hands-on work and is not just a
theory class degree. Students are trained in the nanotechnology
labs of the centre, may partake in the centre’s research programs
and are required to conduct thesis work in the nanosciences under
the guidance of nanoscience faculty. Additionally, the program offers
clinical exposure as well in one of the many operation theatres of the
hospital to help develop an understanding of the medical applications
of nanotechnology. In short, this is a pioneering program that helps to
develop an all-round scientist and technologist with interdisciplinary
specialization in three areas: nanotechnology, biotechnology, and
medical sciences. |

| PLACEMENT |
What is unique about the MTech program in Nanomedical Sciences is that it is driven by a large
and well-funded research program in the area and each and every student has to complete a fullfledge
thesis that is not just a short project towards the end of the program but a comprehensive
research effort in a focused area of nanobiotechnology. The overall program is designed to be multidisciplinary
providing each student with a strong background in technology, biology and medical sciences which has been
possible only because of the strength of our 5-campus university, and specially the existence of a very strong
health sciences academic program at our university.
The first batch of our students are truly our ambassadors, and they are the cream of the crop selected from
over 200 applicants to the program, two-thirds of whom are Gate-qualified candidates. They have skills in and
are ideally suited for cutting-edge careers in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, nanotechnology and
biomedical research. We invite you to our campus to meet the students and conduct one-on-one interviews. |
